Social media is a new way that people share information and promote ideas. Academia also has hopped on to this idea to connect with the public in a more engaging way. For my project I would use social media such as Instagram and Facebook. This is to connect with the two general public audiences I want to connect with. Since the younger crowd who may have interest the topic will be more likely to see the post on social media like Instagram while the older crowd might be more likely to see it on a site like Facebook making it the best places to reach out to the two different audiences. Though both sites are good medium to promote my project for this instance I am going to highlight the Instagram post. The layout of Instagram is a single post that has multiple pictures you can slide through going side by side. Likes, comments and repost are at under the images which are shown one by one. In the form of content both sites will be the same, the only difference will be where they are posted. The content for this post will be an image of Curry Hall which is currently the oldest standing building on campus. The post will highlight Curry Hall as one of the featured buildings in the hunt for fallout shelters on campus. This highlight puts Curry Hall in focus as a one of the many buildings on campus that used to have a fallout shelter. Though the shelter is now gone the structure of where it may have been is still present as seen with a basement floor that now holds classrooms. This post will have other pictures of Curry Hall from the mid 1900s and feature what Curry Hall looks like today. As for the description of the post it will highlight a bit of the short history of Curry Hall and its connection to the project. Though since it is a post the description will not go super in-depth but have enough information to pique interest. This goes with the idea that each building will have its highlight post to get attention and have people curious to know more from the snippet featured on the post. The frequency of these posts will be every other day and once every building has been highlighted other aspects of the project will be looked at. The success of this strategy will be seen through engagement and increasing traffic on the project site. Having likes and repost on the posts will also demonstrate good movement. Overall the use of social media is to gather the attention of users who are looking around and may not be aware of what is available to see while also putting information out there to promote the project to scholars who may be interested as well.
